What we do

Security highlights

Verification before redemption

Every submitted card is checked before anything is redeemed — brand, validity and balance.

Seller authorisation required

Nothing is redeemed until you explicitly approve the transaction by email.

Fraud monitoring

Duplicate registers, pattern checks and payout account checks run on every submission.

Secure transaction reviews

Higher-risk submissions receive manual review by our team before a decision is made.

Privacy protection

Card codes are transmitted over encrypted connections and limited to authorised staff.

Professional customer support

A named support inbox that responds to verification questions and disputes in writing.

Section 1

Purpose

This policy outlines the measures CardSell uses to reduce fraudulent activity and to support responsible business practices. It explains what we check, why we sometimes ask for more information, and what happens when a submission looks unusual.

What this policy is — and is not

This document describes our own internal fraud prevention and compliance practices. It is not a statement of regulatory status. CardSell does not claim to be a regulated financial institution, a licensed money service business, or a firm authorised or supervised by any financial regulator.

Where any legal or regulatory obligation does apply to our business, we comply with it — but nothing on this page should be read as a licence, registration, certification or government endorsement.

Section 2

Our Commitment

CardSell is committed to:

  • Customer protection — keeping legitimate sellers safe from misdirected payouts and account misuse.
  • Transaction security — handling card codes and payout details carefully at every stage.
  • Responsible business practices — declining submissions we are not comfortable accepting.
  • Risk reduction — using proportionate checks rather than blanket demands for documentation.
  • Privacy protection — collecting only the information we reasonably need.
  • Transparent verification procedures — telling you what we check and why.

Section 3

Verification Process

Every submitted gift card may undergo verification, which can include:

  • Balance confirmation — establishing the live, unspent value on the card.
  • Card validity checks — confirming the code and PIN are active and usable.
  • Brand eligibility — confirming the issuing brand is one we currently purchase.
  • Duplicate detection — comparing the code against current and historic submissions.
  • Risk assessment — reviewing submission patterns, account history and payout details.
  • Automated and manual fraud screening, applied where appropriate to the submission.

Verification does not guarantee acceptance, and verification times vary by brand, value and the hours during which the issuing retailer can be reached.

Verification timeline

  1. 01Submission received

Card details are recorded against your submission and encrypted in transit.

  2. 02Automated screening

Duplicate detection, format checks and risk signals are applied to the submission.

  3. 03Balance & validity check

We confirm the brand, the card's validity and the live unspent balance.

  4. 04Manual review where needed

Submissions showing unusual patterns are reviewed by a member of our team.

  5. 05Authorisation request

If the card clears review, we email you an authorisation request with the final amount.

  6. 06Approval, redemption, payout

After your explicit approval the card is redeemed and your electronic payout is initiated.

Section 4

Seller Authorisation

No verified card is redeemed without your explicit authorisation

If a gift card successfully passes verification, an authorisation request is sent to the seller confirming the final payout amount.

No verified gift card is redeemed without the seller's explicit authorisation. If you do not authorise, redemption does not proceed and the card remains yours.

This step is a security control as much as a courtesy: it means a submission made without your knowledge cannot progress to redemption without a confirmation sent to your registered email address.

Section 5

Additional Verification

Where reasonably necessary, CardSell may request additional information in order to:

  • Confirm ownership of the gift card.
  • Verify the identity of the seller.
  • Resolve inconsistencies between submitted and verified details.
  • Help prevent fraud and protect other customers.

Requests are proportionate to the risk — most sellers are never asked for anything beyond the card details. Failure to provide requested information may result in the transaction being delayed or declined.

Section 6

Suspicious Activity

Transactions may be reviewed where unusual activity is identified, including:

  • Multiple duplicate submissions of the same or similar card codes.
  • Inconsistent account information, such as mismatched names or payout details.
  • Unusual transaction patterns, including sudden high-volume submissions.
  • Suspected unauthorised use of an account or payment method.
  • Other indicators of potential fraud identified during screening or review.

CardSell reserves the right to delay, reject or cancel suspicious transactions, to pause or close accounts, and — where we are legally required or reasonably believe it necessary — to notify the issuing retailer or the appropriate authorities.

No system can prevent all fraud

Our checks are designed to reduce risk, not to eliminate it. We cannot promise that every fraudulent submission will be identified. If you believe your account or card details have been misused, contact support@cardsell.co.uk immediately so we can pause any related submission.

Section 7

Prohibited Conduct

When using our website and services, you must not:

  • Submit stolen gift cards or cards obtained through unauthorised transactions.
  • Use false or misleading information, including false identities or third-party payout details.
  • Attempt to bypass, manipulate or interfere with our verification procedures.
  • Use automated abuse, scraping, bots or malicious software against the website.
  • Engage in unlawful activity of any kind through our platform.

Breach of these rules may result in refusal or cancellation of transactions, withholding of payment pending investigation, closure of your account, and referral to the appropriate authorities where permitted by law.

Section 8

Record Keeping

Transaction records — including submission details, verification outcomes, authorisation confirmations and payout records — may be retained for reasonable business, legal, fraud prevention, dispute resolution and compliance purposes.

A register of submitted card codes is maintained so that the same card cannot be submitted twice, including after a submission has been closed or archived. Records are kept only for as long as reasonably necessary, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Section 9

Privacy

Personal information collected during verification is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data protection law, including UK GDPR.

CardSell does not sell personal information. Information shared with verification, payment or fraud prevention providers is limited to what those providers need in order to perform their role.

Section 10

Policy Updates

This policy may be updated periodically to reflect operational improvements, legal developments or enhanced security practices.

The latest version will always be published on the website with an updated "Last Updated" date, and the version in force at the time of your submission is the version that applies to it.
