Every card verified Authorisation before redemption Duplicate & fraud screening Electronic payouts only

Step by step

The acceptance process

  1. 01Submit gift card

You choose the brand, enter the balance and see the payout offer before submitting. Submission is voluntary.

  2. 02Verification

We confirm the brand, card validity and remaining balance, and run duplicate and fraud checks.

  3. 03Eligibility review

We check the card against our current acceptance criteria and operational requirements.

  4. 04Authorisation email

If the card is eligible, we email you an authorisation request confirming the final payout amount.

  5. 05Seller approval

You explicitly approve. Without your approval nothing proceeds and the card stays yours.

  6. 06Redemption

Only after your authorisation is the card redeemed and ownership transferred to CardSell.

  7. 07Electronic payout

Your payout is sent electronically to the payment method you chose. Processing times vary.

Acceptance is never guaranteed, and verification and payout timings vary by brand, value and payment provider.

Section 1

Purpose

This policy is designed to provide transparency about which gift cards may be accepted by CardSell and how each submission is reviewed. We would rather set clear expectations up front than leave sellers guessing.

Submitting a gift card does not guarantee acceptance. Every submission is assessed on its own merits, and any offer shown before submission is indicative and subject to verification.

This policy should be read alongside our Terms & Conditions and Seller Agreement.

Section 2

Eligible Gift Cards

CardSell may accept eligible gift cards from the supported brands listed on the website. If a brand does not appear in our catalogue, you may still submit it using the "my card isn't listed" option, and we will review it individually.

Whether a particular card is accepted depends on factors such as:

Supported brand

The issuing retailer must be one we are currently purchasing from.

Available balance

The card must hold a verifiable, unspent balance within our accepted range.

Card validity

The code and PIN must be active, unexpired and usable.

Verification results

The outcome of balance, duplicate and fraud checks on the submission.

Operational requirements

Current demand, buyer availability and internal risk limits for that brand.

Card conditions

Restrictions such as in-store-only redemption or non-transferable terms may make a card ineligible.

Acceptance criteria and published rates may change without prior notice. The criteria in force at the time we review your submission are the ones that apply to it.

Section 3

Seller Requirements

Each time you submit a card, you confirm that:

  • You are the lawful owner of the gift card.
  • The gift card was obtained legally.
  • You have the legal authority to transfer ownership of the card.
  • All submitted information is accurate and complete, including the brand, balance, code and payout details.

We may decline submissions, pause a transaction or close an account where these confirmations cannot be relied upon.

Section 4

Verification Process

Every submitted gift card undergoes verification before acceptance. Verification may include:

  • Balance confirmation — establishing the live, unspent value on the card.
  • Card validity checks — confirming the code and PIN are active and usable.
  • Brand eligibility — confirming the issuing brand is one we currently purchase.
  • Duplicate detection — comparing the code against our register of current and historic submissions.
  • Fraud prevention screening — checking for indicators of stolen, manipulated or unlawfully obtained cards.
  • Risk assessment — reviewing submission patterns, account history and payout details.

Additional verification may be requested where appropriate, such as proof of purchase, a receipt, clearer photographs of the card, or confirmation that the payout account belongs to you. Verification times vary by brand, value and the hours during which the issuing retailer can be reached.

Section 5

Seller Authorisation

No verified card is redeemed without your explicit authorisation

If a gift card successfully passes verification, CardSell will send an authorisation request to the seller, setting out the final payout amount.

The seller must provide explicit approval before redemption takes place. No verified gift card is redeemed without the seller's explicit authorisation.

You may decline the authorisation request or withdraw your submission at any point before approving it. If authorisation is not received, redemption does not proceed and the card remains yours to use elsewhere.

Section 6

Reasons a Gift Card May Be Declined

A submission may be declined where:

  • The card is from an unsupported brand or region.
  • The balance cannot be verified, or differs materially from the amount declared.
  • Ownership of the card cannot be confirmed.
  • Fraud indicators are detected during screening.
  • Duplicate submissions are identified, including cards previously submitted by another account.
  • Required information is incomplete, inconsistent or illegible.
  • The card has already been redeemed, has expired, or is otherwise ineligible under its own terms.

Where a submission is declined before redemption, the card is not redeemed and remains yours. We will notify you of the outcome by email and, where we are able to do so, explain the reason.

Section 7

Fraud Prevention

CardSell uses reasonable fraud prevention measures to help protect customers, retailers and the business. These include duplicate registers, screening of submission patterns, payout account checks and manual review by our team.

Suspicious submissions may be delayed, rejected, or require additional verification before a decision is made. Where we are legally required to do so, or reasonably believe it necessary, we may report matters to the appropriate authorities or to the issuing retailer. Further detail is set out in our Fraud Prevention Policy.

Section 8

Payout Eligibility

Payouts are issued only after:

  • Successful verification of the gift card.
  • Explicit seller authorisation of the transaction.
  • Completion of the transaction, including redemption of the card.

Approved payouts are made electronically using our supported payment methods, such as a a local bank transfer in your country or a supported e-money provider. Processing times vary depending on verification and your payment provider, and we do not promise a fixed completion time.

Cash payments are not available

All payouts are electronic. CardSell never pays in cash and never uses cheques, cryptocurrency or other physical instruments. Full detail is set out in our Payment & Payout Policy.

Section 9

Policy Updates

This policy may be updated periodically to reflect operational, legal or security changes, including changes to the brands we purchase and the checks we carry out.

The latest version will always be available on the website with an updated "Last Updated" date, and the version in force when you submit a card is the version that applies to that submission.
